Click, Read, Know: The Changing Face of Journalism
TACLOBAN CITY, Philippines — Ahlette C. Reyes, information agent of the Philippines Information Agency, discussed the necessity and drawbacks of digital journalism during a mini press conference at St. Therese Educational Foundation of Tacloban City Inc. on September 11, 2026.
She stated that digital journalism goes far beyond posting online. It combines stories, photos, and graphics that allow the audience to interact and participate in the news more effectively.

The advancement of technology progresses as the number of people going digital increases. People in far-flung areas with limited access to traditional news can receive news more effectively with just a signal and data.
“90 percent of young people are already digitally wired.”
“In terms of accessibility, where access through traditional media may be limited, with signal, one is able to access information online,” Reyes said.
The digitalized form of journalism allows news to move faster through digital platforms, provides a wider reach whether local or overseas, and engages writers with their audience through polls and suggestions for story ideas, Reyes remarked.
Despite these advantages, Reyes stressed that there are also disadvantages that come with the advancement of technology. One of these is the rampant and inevitable spread of misinformation.
However, Reyes stated that we should all remain truthful in the information we post. It is our responsibility as journalists to choose accuracy over virality.
